Scottsdale is one of Arizona's most historical cities to visit. Only 15 miles east of Phoenix in the middle of the Sonoran desert, it is known by the locals as the "West's Most Western Town", due to the historical roots of the city. In fact the city itself has become internationally known by art collectors as a great place to add to their art collections. You can even enjoy the art scene along with the nice temperature and climate of the city at the outdoors Art Walk every Thursday. Throughout the year the Art Walk is themed and becomes more like a block party with bands and food vendors along the street. It is a great place to go single and mingle and an even better place to bring the family. If you'd rather be able to take a seat to enjoy your art there are also a variety of performing arts shows to choose from. The Scottsdale Center for Performing Arts is a non-profit organization that sponsors the two theaters in the downtown Scottsdale area. Maybe viewing a performing arts show will spark a motivation for a spontaneous performance of your own for your friends and family under the Scottsdale stars in one of the many public city parks. If you don't want to stroll around, contact a limousine service to get great transportation for a special event or for airport pickup. While not thought of as art by most, some do consider it so. Most view it as a sport. However you look at it, the fact is that Scottsdale is home to the Scottsdale Gun Club. This gun club boasts one of the largest indoor and air conditioned public shooting ranges in the world. If you already know how to aim and shoot they have over 80 firearms you can rent. If you're new to gun shooting they have classes on gun safety and gun control. Even if you're not into guns I wouldn't be so quick to judge the gun club. The Scottsdale Gun Club also offers self-defense classes and sexual assault prevention classes throughout the year. Shopping is definitely a hobby for some and the enthusiastic shopper will find a gold mind in Scottsdale. The Scottsdale Fashion Square offers more than 225 retailers on two levels and is safely one of the largest malls in the southwest. There are 40 retailers in this mall that are not represented anywhere else in Arizona. After you're done shopping there are a number of restaurants to choose from if you'd like to grab a bite to eat. There is also a movie theatre on site if you'd like to enjoy an afternoon or evening movie showing. Scottsdale is not only a tourist destination. With a variety of universities, colleges and businesses already within the city, it is also a great place to make your residence. If you have or plan on having children Scottsdale is a safe and friendly environment in which to raise your children and an excellent place for your children to attend school. The climate of the Sonoran Desert and the splendor of the mountains that form a ring around the city make Scottsdale a peaceful and relaxing place to live.
